Oklahoma State University has taken a groundbreaking step in the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) era by integrating QR codes into the design of their football helmets for the 2024 season. These QR codes, which are 1.5-inch decals placed on the back of each player's helmet, link directly to a general NIL fund that benefits every student-athlete on the team. This innovative approach is believed to be the first of its kind in college football, allowing fans to easily contribute to the NIL pool by simply scanning the code.
The QR codes are part of the broader "Saddle Up Campaign" organized by Pokes With A Purpose, aimed at boosting the financial support available to players. In addition to being featured on helmets, these QR codes will also appear on players' bag tags, coasters in premium areas of Boone Pickens Stadium, and other signage throughout the stadium, ensuring maximum visibility and engagement from fans both in-person and online.

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting how it keeps the program at the forefront of NIL opportunities. Gundy emphasized that this gives everyday fans a unique way to directly support the players, making a tangible impact on the program's success.

This move comes as Oklahoma State prepares to open its season against South Dakota State, and it reflects a larger trend in college athletics where schools are increasingly looking to innovative solutions to support their athletes in the NIL landscape.
